2017 Maverick County Jr. Livestock Show & Sale Kicks-Off January 20th-28th

The 2017 Maverick County Junior Livestock Show & Sale kicks-off on Friday, January 20 and Saturday, January 21, 2017 a full week of activities with the Muy Grande BBQ Cook-Off at the Zan Mathies Showbarn at the Maverick County Lake in Eagle Pass, Texas. On Sunday, January 22, 2017, the Maverick County Junior Livestock Show and Sale will host the 2017 Maverick County Jr. Livestock Show Pageant at 3 P.M. at the Zan Mathies Showbarn at the Maverick County Lake in Eagle Pass. To register as a contestant for the Maverick County Jr. Livestock Show Pageant, please contact Olga Ramos at (830) 968-8710. Admission to the Beauty Pageant will cost $2 for adults and $1 for children. Come out and support all the local beauty queens!
One of the favorite events annually at the Maverick County Junior Livestock Show and Sale is the Jesus “Chuy” Sanchez Memorial Cowboy Breakfast, which is going to be held on Tuesday, January 24, 2017 at 7 A.M. through 9 A.M. at the Zan Mathies Showbarn at the Maverick County Lake. Come out and enjoy a genuine Cowboy Breakfast with eggs, bacon, potatoes, biscuits, tacos, and refreshments while supporting the youth of our community. Music will be provided by local school bands. Admission is $8 Per Person on Pre-Sale and $10 at the Door.
Also on Tuesday, January 24th, all the Lambs and Goats will move into the Zan Mathies Show Barn and all individuals interested in participating in the Photography and Art Show must turn in their entries at the Zan Mathies Show Barn.
On Wednesday, January 25th, the weighing and sifting of Market Lambs and Market Goats will be held at 9 A.M. followed by the judging of Out of County and Breeding Sheep and Goats. Also the move in of Rabbits and Meat Pens, their weighing, sifting, and judging of Market Rabbits and Meat Pens will be held, including the selection of Grand and Reserve Champion Market Rabbit and Meat Pen.
Also on Wednesday, January 25th, will be the move in, weighing, sifting, and judging of Market Poultry, including the selection of Grand and Reserve Champion Broiler and Roaster after the rabbit show.
In addition, on Wednesday, January 25th, will be the judging of Young Exhibitor Projects as well as the move in of Steers and Hogs after 5 P.M.
On Thursday, January 26, 2017, all Food Show Entries are due at the Zan Mathies Show Barn between 7 A.M.-11:30 A.M. and the judging of the Food Show and Photography Contest will be held at 12 Noon.
Also on Thursday, January 26th, the judging of Market Lambs will commence at 9 A.M. followed by judging of the Market Lamb Showmanship Contest. Following the Lamb Show will be the judging of Market Goats and the Market Goat Showmanship Contest. Following the Goat Show will be the selection of Grand and Reserve Champion Goat and Lamb.
In addition on Thursday, January 26th, the weighing and sifting of Market Steers and Market Swine will be held following the selection of the Champion Goat and Lamb. Also the judging of Out of County and Breeding Cattle and Swine will be held, as well as the judging of Young Exhibitor Projects.
On Friday, January 27, 2017, the judging of Market Swine and Market Swine Showmanship Contest will start at 9 A.M. followed by the judging of Market Steers and Market Steer Showmanship Contest. Then the selection of the Grand and Reserve Champion Hog and Steer will be held as well as the selection of the Overall Senior Showmanship Champion and Adult Showmanship Contest. The winners of the Food Show, Art and Photography Show winners will be recognized too.
On Saturday, January 28, 2017, the annual traditional Bar-B-Que Plate Sale will start at 11 A.M.-1 P.M. for only $8 per plate with all the Bar-B-Que trimmings. Yummy and delicious. Also at 11 A.M. is the Dedication of the 2017 Maverick County Junior Livestock Show Ceremony will be held, as well as recognition of the 2016 Maverick County Jurnior Livestock and Show Sale Top 10 Buyers will be held.
The highlight of the 2017 Maverick County Junior. Livestock Show is the Sale of the Grand and Reserve Champion animals as well as all Market animals starting at 11:30 A.M. Until the last market animal is sold.
To cap off all the hard work and fun of the 2017 Maverick County Junior Livestock Show and Sale is the Western Dance at the City of Eagle Pass International Trade Center at 8 P.M. until the “Cows Come Home.” Ticket are $20 per person on pre sale and $30 at the door. Table reservation are available at $50, $75, and $100. Live music bands will feature the Chris Salinas Band, Freddy Cruz and the Noble Outlaws, and the Nick Lawrence Band.
All Maverick County and surrounding area businesses, entrepreneurs, farmers and ranchers, adults, children, and fans should come out and support the 2017 Maverick County Junior Livestock Show and Sale during January 20th-28th, 2017..
