Eagle Pass C. C. Winn Mavericks Football Player Raul Gomez passes away from injuries sustained in single vehicle auto accident

Eagle Pass C. C. Winn High School Mavericks senior football player Raul Gomez, age 17, passed away on Saturday, December 31, 2016, at approximately 4 P.M. at a San Antonio, Texas medical center from injuries sustained as a result of a single vehicle auto accident on Friday, December 30th, on FM 2030 near Pueblo Nuevo Subdivision in Eagle Pass, Texas.
According to the Maverick County Sheriff’s Department, Gomez lost control of his 2013 Chevrolet Camaro while traveling on FM 2030 and collided head-on with a tree off of the road at approximately 9:45 P.M. on December 30th, causing him to be thrown out of the vehicle upon impact.
Gomez was airlifted to a San Antonio medical center for medical attention, but unfortunately succumbed to the injuries from the auto accident on Saturday, December 31st.
Gomez was a key defensive football player for the C. C. Winn Mavericks during their drive to the 2016 District Co-Championship, Bi-District Championship, Area Championship, and Regional Semi-Finalist, earning District 29-5A All-District Honorable Mention Defensive Team as a Utility Player.
The C. C. Winn High School administration, faculty, coaching staff, students, and Maverick Nation are deeply saddened by the passing of Raul Gomez and request that the community pray for his eternal rest in peace and support of his family.
C. C. Winn Mavericks Head Football Coach Eric Villasenor stated in his Twitter account today that “a great player and most importantly a wonderful person” (Raul Gomez) passed away and that he was “going to miss…two-eight. Nothing but awesome memories.”
The Eagle Pass Business Journal expresses its deepest condolences to the family of Raul Gomez and the entire Maverick Nation on this great loss and may he rest in peace.
Funeral arrangements are being handled by Memorial Funeral Chapels of Eagle Pass, Texas. Viewing is on Tuesday, January 3, 2017, from 5:30 P.M. To 9 P.M. With a Rosary at 7 P.M. and on Wednesday, January 4th, from 10 A.M. to 9 P.M. with a Rosary at 7 P.M. Mass will be held on Thursday, January 5th, at 10 A.M. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with interment following mass at the Our Lady of Refuge Catholic Cemetery in Eagle Pass, Texas.
