Eagle Pass CBP Officers Seize $200K Worth of Meth, Intercept a Human Smuggling Attempt at Port
EAGLE PASS, Texas – U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers were active over the weekend in intercepting a human smuggling attempt of a Mexican citizen man and seized more than five pounds of methamphetamine, in two separate enforcement actions at the Eagle Pass Port of Entry.
“This interception of dangerous drugs and human smuggling of a child exemplifies the teamwork of our officers working at our port,” said Port Director John Brandt, Eagle Pass Port of Entry. “Our officers employed a combination of observational skills and high tech tools to uncover this load and preventing it from going any further and halt these types of human smuggling attempts, all in a day’s work.”
On Jan. 27, CBP officers at the Eagle Pass International Bridge inspected a 2010 Dodge Ram truck, driven by a 32-year-old San Antonio man, as it arrived from Mexico. Officers utilized a non-intrusive imaging system and a canine for inspection, two plastic containers of alleged methamphetamine were retrieved from the spare tire of the vehicle. Officers seized a total of 5.27 pounds of alleged methamphetamine worth an estimated $232,517. The driver was turned over to Homeland Security Investigations special agents for further investigations. CBP officers seized the vehicle and narcotics.
On Jan. 29, CBP officers at the Camino Real International Bridge inspected a 2006 Dodge Grand Caravan, driven by a U.S. citizen woman, as it arrived from Mexico. A passenger in the vehicle, presented a U.S. birth certificate to the officers. Upon questioning, CBP officers learned that the man was a 23-year-old Mexican citizen without legal documents to enter the U.S., and the woman had allegedly provided the U.S. birth certificate to smuggle him into the U.S. illegally. The passenger will appear before a U.S. magistrate for alleged violation of immigration law.
