Former Eagle Pass Educator and Administrator Jesus Ramiro Rubio passes away

Longtime Eagle Pass Independent School District educator and administrator, Jesus Ramiro Rubio, passed away in San Antonio, Texas on February 1, 2017, and his funeral is under the direction of Yeager-Barrera Mortuary of Eagle Pass, Texas.
Although born in Del Rio, Texas, Rubio was raised in Eagle Pass, Texas and attended its public schools. While at Eagle Pass High School, Rubio was voted as “Most Popular” at Eagle Pass High School and excelled in basketball where he was named an All-District Basketball Team Player.
While studying to be a Bull Fighter in Mexico City, Rubio received his Draft Notice into the United States military during World War II. He joined the United States Navy and served in the USS Colorado in the Pacific. After World War II, Rubio enrolled at St. Mary’s University in San Antonio, Texas, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology and later a Master of Arts degree in English. He worked several years for Union Pacific Railroad and Kelly Air Force Base in San Antonio before returning to Eagle Pass, where he worked with the Eagle Pass Independent School District.
Rubio worked with the Eagle Pass Independent School District as a Teacher, Federal Programs Coordinator, and Elementary School Principal.
Funeral services include public viewing on Thursday, February 9, 2017 from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. with a Rosary at 7:30 p.m. and Mass will be held on Friday, February 10, 2017 at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Refuge Catholic Church followed by Interment at Our Lady of Refuge Catholic Cemetery.
Rubio is predeceased by his parents, Jesus Fernando Rubio and maria Falcon-Gil, his wife, Aurora Garza de Rubio, and a sister, Leticia Rubio.
He is survived by his three children, Jesus “Corky” Rubio, Maria Elia “Lily” Rubio, and Helen Mello as well as many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nephews, nieces, brother and sister in laws.
