Maverick County Commissioners Court unanimously approved a resolution opposing the construction of President Trump’s U.S.-Mexico border wall at its regular meeting on Monday, February 13, 2017, citing Trump’s wall will economically hurt U.S.-Mexico border communities such as Eagle Pass and Maverick County, Texas.
Maverick County joins the City of Eagle Pass and many U.S.-Mexico border communities in approving resolutions in opposition to Trump’s border wall Executive Order.
Recent estimates of Trump’s proposed border wall increased to $21.6 Billion, which American taxpayers will have to pay for despite Trump’s campaign rhetoric that Mexico will pay for the wall.
National security experts have postulated that Trump’s border wall is totally unnecessary and a waste of American taxpayers money, opining that increased technology and more manpower would be better use of American tax dollars.
Maverick County Commissioners Court will forward its resolution to Texas’ two Republican U.S. Senators John Cornyn and Ted Cruz as well as Republican U. S. House of Representative Will Hurd, who is one of few Republicans that opposes Trump’s border wall, so that they can present to President Trump.
