Eagle Pass Border Patrol Agents Seize 1,056 lbs of Marijuana in Four Days
(Press Release) DEL RIO, Texas – U.S. Border Patrol agents working in the Del Rio Sector seized more than 1,056 pounds of narcotics, with an estimated street value of $845,200 in three different incidents between Feb. 24 and Feb. 27.
“Narcotics smugglers aggressively attempt to move their dangerous product into the United States and will employ any means to do so” said Acting Chief Patrol Agent Matthew J. Hudak. “Thanks to the hard work of Del Rio Sector agents, a costly blow was dealt to these criminal organizations in a short amount of time, ultimately preventing these drugs from entering our country.”
Feb. 24, agents from the Eagle Pass Station were following footprints through a ranch north of the city when they discovered six duffel bags on the property. The duffel bags were concealed under brush and grass and contained a total of 352.8 pounds of marijuana with an estimated street value of $282,240.
Feb. 24, agents from the Eagle Pass South Station were tracking foot sign through a remote area south of the city. With the assistance of a Border Patrol canine, agents were able to locate six duffle bags hidden in the brush. Once opened, agents found 355 pounds of marijuana with an estimated street value of $284,000.
Feb. 27, agents from the Eagle Pass Station were following foot sign through a remote area east of the city. Agents had been actively tracking the suspected smugglers for two days when they discovered seven duffel bags hidden with grass and brush. The duffel bags contained 348.7 pounds of marijuana with an estimated street value of $278,960.
No subjects were arrested during these seizures. All seized contraband was turned over to Drug Enforcement Administration.
