Del Rio, TX Man Dies in Pick-Up Truck and 18 Wheeler Tractor-Trailer Accident on US Highway 277 in Maverick County

A Del Rio, Texas man, Demetrio Villanueva, age 79, died in an automobile accident on U.S. Highway 277 North about 10 miles north of Eagle Pass, Maverick County, Texas on Thursday, May 11, 2017, when he collided with the rear of an 18 wheeler tractor-trailer after suffering fatal injuries.

Villanueva was pinned inside his pick-up truck cabin from the strong impact of the rear-end collision with the 18 wheeler tractor-trailer.

Villanueva was rushed to Fort Duncan Regional Medical Center for treatment, but shortly died upon arrival from the severe injuries he sustained in the accident.

The driver of the 18 wheeler tractor-trailer did not sustain any serious injuries in the accident.

The accident caused U.S. Highway 277 North between Eagle Pass and Del Rio to be closed for up to three hours while emergency response personnel worked the accident and the Texas Department of Public Safety investigated the accident.

The Maverick County Sheriff’s Department, Eagle Pass Fire Department EMS, and Texas Department of Public Safety personnel responded to the accident .  

The accident is under investigation by the Texas Department of Public Safety.
