Eagle Pass and Middle Rio Grande Region seniors enjoyed the Third Annual Senior Olympics hosted by La Hacienda de Paz Rehabilitation and Care Center on Thursday, June 8, 2017, as over 100 persons participated in the health and fitness-related senior Olympics, announced Pete Zamora, Administrator of La Hacienda de Paz Rehabilitation and Care Center.
Senior citizens from Eagle Pass, Del Rio, Uvalde, and Carrizo Springs competed in several Olympic Games such as the Wheelchair Race, the Javelin Throw, the Shot Put Throw, the Zig-Zag Wheelchair Challenge, a Walk-a-Thon, a Dance-Off, a Football-themed Wheelchair Challenge, a Volleyball Tournament, and other sporting events coordinated by former NFL Player Keith Stephens.
Participants and their guests were treated to a Classic Car Show by local car enthusiasts who displayed their classic automobiles, bringing memories of the automobiles many of the seniors used to drive during the 1950s through 1970s.
An Awards Ceremony was held inside the beautiful and spacious gymnasium at La Hacienda de Paz Rehabilitation and Care Center. Winners of each event were presented medals and prizes by La Hacienda de Paz Administrator Pete Zamora.
