Maverick County Sheriff Tom Schmerber announced that 29 undocumented immigrants were arrested at a stash house located on Juan Circle in Las Quintas Fronterizas Subdivision in Eagle Pass, Texas on Tuesday, July 31, 2018, after receiving an anonymous telephone call from a local citizen regarding suspicious activity.
Maverick County Sheriff Deputies were sent to the reported house and called the U.S. Border Patrol for assistance to detain and process the 29 undocumented immigrants found inside the Juan Circle home in Las Quintas Fronterizas Subdivision.
Another 20 or more undocumented immigrants were able to flee the scene of the detention by running away from the stash house as law enforcement authorities raided the house, including possibly the persons in charge of the Juan Circle stash house, said Sheriff Schmerber.
An estimated 50-60 undocumented immigrants are believed to have been housed at the stash house on Juan Circle, according to interviews of the detained immigrants.
In recent months, this is the sixth stash house raided by Eagle Pass and Maverick County law enforcement authorities together with the U.S. Border Patrol.
During the summer, there is an increase of undocumented immigrants seeking to enter the United States by crossing the Rio Grande River at the U.S.-Mexico border, according to Sheriff Schmerber.
Sheriff Schmerber advises Maverick Countians to please report any suspicious activity to the Maverick County Sheriff Department at (830) 773-2321 or the Eagle Pass Police Department at (830) 773-9044.
