Eagle Pass Eagles Kick-Off 2018 Football Season Versus Uvalde Coyotes

The mighty Eagle Pass High School Eagles kick-off the 2018 Texas High School Football Season versus the Uvalde High School Coyotes in a non-district game on Friday, August 31, 2018, at 7:30 P.M. at The Honey Bowl in Uvalde, Texas, announced Eagles Head Football Coach Tom Gonzalez.
The defending District 29-6A Co-Champion Eagle Pass Eagles seek to improve upon their successful 2017 Season (9-3) with a key season opening victory over the perennially tough Uvalde Coyotes on Friday, August 31st. The Eagles have been working during the off-season to improve their skills and athleticism for the 2018 season.
The Eagles remained in District 29-6A during the 2018 U.I.L. Re-alignment while the Uvalde Coyotes were realigned from last year’s District 29-5A to a newly formed District 14-5A Division II. Dave Campbell’s Texas Football Magazine picked the Eagles to finish third in District 29-6A in 2018.
The Uvalde Coyotes finished 6-5 overall last year and were a Bi-District Championship finalist. The Coyotes have 25 returning lettermen with five returning starters on offense and three on defense.
The Eagles have 33 returning lettermen with seven starters on offense and eight on defense, fielding a team with experienced and veteran players.
Leading the mighty Eagles self-proclaimed “War Eagle” Offense are Quarterback Ricardo “Richie” Luna, Running Backs Saul Perales and J. Herrera, Wide Receivers Rey Mendoza, Oscar Castillon, Eric Jimenez, and Isaac Gonzalez, Center Jose Laguna, Guards Rey Galindo and Jorge Guardado, Tackles Tito Villarreal and Alex Martinez, and Kickers David Lopez and Erick Ramirez.
Spearheading the self-proclaimed “Land Shark” Eagles Defense are Linebackers David Kypuros, Roger Ulloa, and Jacob Jimenez, Defensive Tackles David Santos, Manny Rodriguez, Martin Rodriguez, and Andres Conde, Defensive Ends Moises Rocha and Jorge Gonzalez, Cornerbacks Raul Lechler, Joshua Moncivais, and Eric Heredia, and Safeties Nicanor Moyeda and Ryan Chisum.
Eagles Head Coach Tom Gonzalez stated that the Eagles are ready to kick-off the 2018 Season after successful scrimmages against Somerset Bulldogs and Laredo Martin Tigers.
Assisting Head Coach Gonzalez are Offensive Coordinator Javier Cardenas, Defensive Coordinator Roger Olivas, Special Teams Coordinator Oscar Ruiz, and Assistant Coaches Sam Navejas, Pete Venegas, Beto Garcia, Chris Villa, Joe Villa, Ricky Ruiz, and Rey Jimenez. Freshmen Team Coaches include Mario Mata, Jesus Juarez, and Louie Hernandez. Athletic Trainers are Brian Dodd and Josue Flores. Athletic Director is Edward Graf.
