The mighty Eagle Pass High School Eagles Football Team is predicted to finish in third place in District 29-6A during the 2018 Texas High School Football season, according to Dave Campbell’s Texas Football Magazine.
The 2018 Texas High School Football Season kicks-off on August 6, 2018 with the first day of practice without equipment except only football helmets, raising excitement and intrigue as to which teams are going to enjoy successful seasons and who will win the state championship in the various classifications.
Dave Campbell’s Texas Football Magazine predicts the Laredo United High School Longhorns will win the District 29-6A Championship followed by the Laredo Alexander High School Bulldogs in second place, the Eagle Pass High School Eagles in third place, the Laredo United South High School Panthers in fourth place, the Laredo Nixon High School Mustangs in fifth place, the Del Rio High School Rams in sixth place, and the Laredo LBJ High School Wolves in seventh place. The top four finishers in District advance to the state playoffs. These are just predictions. Anything can happen during the season. District 29-6A is a highly competitive district and all the teams are just about the same in talent.
District 29-6A has slightly changed for 2018 due to realignment as San Antonio Southwest High School Dragons and San Antonio South San High School Bobcats were realigned to 5A in a different District while Laredo Nixon High School Mustangs were moved up from 5A to 6A and added to District 29-6A. The remaining high schools in District 29-6A include Eagle Pass High School, Laredo United, Laredo Alexander, Laredo United South, Del Rio, and Laredo LBJ.
The Eagle Pass Eagles have 33 returning lettermen from last year’s District 29-6A Co-Championship Team, including seven returning starters on offense and eight returning starters on defense.
The Eagles offense will be led by quarterback Ricardo Luna, running backs Saul Perales, Ricky De Los Santos and J. Herrera, wide receivers Rey Mendoza, David Lopez, Oscar Castillon, Matthew De Alba, place kicker David Lopez, center Alonzo Carrazco, and offensive linemen Jorge Guardado, Hipolito Villarreal, Jose Laguna, Ray Galindo, Alex Martinez, Abraham Urdiales, and Matthew Felan.
The Eagles defense will be anchored by linebacker David Kypuros, linebackers Roger Ulloa, Leo Triana, and Jacob Salinas, defensive linemen Moises Rocha, David Santos, Raul Olivas, and Manny Rodriguez, defensive end Andres Conde, and defensive backs Nicanor Moyeda, Ryan Chisum, Raul Lechler, Joshua Monsivais, Kristian Barcena, Eric Heredia, and Raul Garcia.
The Eagles will play two scrimmage games against Somerset High School Bulldogs on Saturday, August 18, 2018, at 7 P.M. in Somerset, Texas and Laredo Martin High School Tigers on Thursday, August 23, 2018, at 7 P.M. in Eagle Pass, Texas.
