Eagle Pass Winn Mavericks Football Picked as Second Place Favorite in New District 14-5A Division I

The thundering Eagle Pass C. C. Winn High School Mavericks Football Team is picked to finish in second place in the newly realigned District 14-5A Division I during the 2018 Texas High School Football Season according to Dave Campbell’s Texas Football Magazine.
The 2018 Texas High School Football Season is upon us with the first day that teams can begin practicing is August 6, 2018 without equipment except football helmets, creating an air of excitement and football fever among Texas High School football aficionados. The first day that football teams can practice with their full gear is on August 11, 2018, according to the University Interscholastic League (U.I.L.).
The Eagle Pass Winn Mavericks were realigned into a new 5A District designated as District 14-5A Division I for football purposes during 2018-2020 with some new high schools added and others dropped from the previous District 29-5A. The newly created District 14-5A for football purposes includes San Antonio Southwest High School Dragons, which competed in District 29-6A last two years with the Eagle Pass High School Eagles, San Antonio Southwest Legacy High School Titans, which is a new high school in the San Antonio Southwest ISD, San Antonio Northside ISD Harlan High School Hawks, which also is a new high school within the San Antonio Northside ISD, Laredo Martin High School Tigers from the Laredo ISD, San Antonio Harlandale High School Indians and San Antonio McCollum High School Cowboys both from the San Antonio Harlandale ISD, who were previous district foes of the Winn Mavericks in the old District 29-5A, and the Eagle Pass Winn High School Mavericks.
Dave Campbell’s Texas Football Magazine predicts the San Antonio Southwest Dragons will win the newly created District 14-5A Division I during the 2018 Texas High School Football Season, followed by the Eagle Pass Winn Mavericks picked to finish in second place, then the San Antonio Northside ISD Harlan Hawks picked to finish in third place, the Laredo Martin Tigers picked to finish in fourth place, the San Antonio Harlandale Indians picked to finish in fifth place, the San Antonio Southwest Legacy Titans picked to finish sixth place, and the San Antonio McCollum Cowboys picked to finish in seventh place. The top four teams in District 14-5A Division I advance to the state playoffs. These are merely predictions by the editors and writers of Dave Campbell’s Texas Football Magazine after analyzing each team.
The Eagle Pass Winn Mavericks have 29 returning lettermen from last year’s District 29-5A fourth place team, including eight returning starters on offense and six returning starters on defense.
The Winn Mavericks offense will be guided by quarterback Ethan Johnston, running back Mark Cardenas, wide receivers Jose Blanco, Ernest Vasquez, Jared Roiz, Justis Roiz, tight end David Perez, and Raul Solis, and offensive linemen Jaime Rodriguez and Miguel Nino.
The Mavericks defense will be led by linebackers Miguel De Los Santos and Patricio Hernandez, defensive linemen Ricardo Morales, Alejandro Ontiveros, and Martin Rodriguez, and defensive backs Ricardo Morales, Domingo Duran, and Joey Aguilar.
The Winn Mavericks 2018 football schedule includes two scrimmages against Carrizo Springs High School Wildcats on August 17, 2018 at 7 P.M. at Carrizo Springs, Texas and Laredo United South High School Panthers on August 24, 2018 at 10 A.M. at Eagle Pass ISD Cozel Foster-Veterans Memorial Football Stadium.
The Winn Mavericks kick-off the 2018 Texas High School Football Season on the road against the Crystal City High School Javelinas in a non-district game on August 31, 2018 at 7:30 P.M. at Crystal City ISD Football Stadium; followed by another non-district game against the Uvalde High School Coyotes on September 7, 2018 at 7:30 P.M. at the Eagle Pass ISD Cozel Foster-Veterans Memorial Football Stadium; then another non-district game against cross-town rival Eagle Pass Eagles on September 14, 2018 at 7:30 P.M. at Eagle Pass ISD Cozel Foster-Veterans Memorial Football Stadium; followed by another non-district game against the Pearsall High School Mavericks on September 21, 2018 at 7:30 P.M. at Pearsall ISD Football Stadium; then open District 14-5A Division I play against the Laredo Martin Tigers on September 28, 2018 at 7:30 P.M.at Eagle Pass ISD Cozel Foster-Veterans Memorial Football Stadium; followed by another District game against the San Antonio McCollum Cowboys on October 5, 2018 at 7:30 P.M. at San Antonio Harlandale ISD Frank Tejeda Sports Complex Football Stadium; then another District game against the San Antonio Harlandale Indians on October 12, 2018 at 7:30 P.M. at Eagle Pass ISD Cozel Foster-Veterans Memorial Stadium; followed by another District game against the San Antonio Northside ISD Harlan Hawks on October 20, 2018 at 7:00 P.M. at San Antonio Northside ISD Farris Stadium; then enjoy an Open Week during October 22-26, 2018; then return to another District game against the San Antonio Southwest Legacy Titans on November 2, 2018 at 7:30 P.M. at Eagle Pass ISD Cozel Foster-Veterans Memorial Football Stadium; and finish the regular season in another key District game against the San Antonio Southwest Dragons on November 9, 2018 at 7:30 P.M. at San Antonio Southwest ISD Football Stadium.
