Maverick County Hospital District (MCHD) Board of Trustees candidate Humberto Duran for the November 6, 2018 Election was disqualified as a registered candidate due to an administrative error on the correct calculation of the candidate filing deadline made by MCHD Chief Executive Officer Terri Contreras-Patlan, according to a press release issued by Conteras-Patlan.
Contereras-Patlan apologized to candidate Humberto Duran for the admistrative error that caused him to be disqualified as a candidate for the MCHD Board of Trustees election on November 6th, as well as to the community.
Contreras-Patlan incorrectly calculated the candidate filing deadline as Tuesday, August 21, 2018 instead of the state issued deadline of Monday, August 20th. Duran registered on August 21st as previously announced by the MCHD in public notices published in local newspapers.
According to Melanie Best of the Texas Secretary of State Elections Division, the candidate registration deadline was Monday, August 2oth, and Duran’s registration on Tuesday, August 21st, had to be rejected; however, Duran may register as a Write-In Candidate by the August 24th deadline for Write-In candidates.
Duran has stated in an interview with a foreign press that he will not seek to register as a Write-In candidate in the MCHD Board of Trustees Election on November 6th.
As a result of this administrative error, there will only be four candidates running for the two MCHD Board positions in the November 6th Election, including Adolfo Olivares, Jr., Ronald Hixson, Joaquin Menchaca, and Aaron Eduardo Valdez.
