Pete Gallego faces Peter Flores in Texas Senate District 19 Special Run-Off Election on September 18th

Former Congressman and State Representative Pete Gallego (D-Alpine) faces retired Game Warden Peter Flores (R-Pleasanton) in the Texas Senate District 19 Special Run-Off Election on Tuesday, September 18, 2018 to fill the vacant unexpired term of former State Senator Carlos Uresti.

Early voting period begins on Monday, September 10th and runs through Friday, September 14th in this Texas Senate District 19 Special Run-Off Election.

Texas Governor Gregg Abbott, a Republican, scheduled the Texas Senate District 19 Special Run-Off Election with short notice to September 18th with the intent of the Republican Party snatching this long-held Democratic Party State Senate District in a low voter turnout special election. Republicans are hoping that Democrats will stay at home and not come out to vote in this Special Run-Off Election while enough Republicans come out and vote to score an upset in the Texas Senate District 19 Special Run-Off Election.

Maverick County is one of 17 counties represented in this key Texas Senate District 19 race that stretches from Dimmit County (Carrizo Springs) to Bexar County (San Atonio) to Reeves County (Pecos) to the Texas-Mexico border (Eagle Pass) and West Texas (Alpine & Marfa).  Texas Senate District 19 includes the Permian Basin and Eagle Ford Shale Oil and Gas Fields within Texas.

Texas Senate District 19 has traditionally been held by a Democrat for many years, but the resignation of former State Senator Carlos Uresti has opened an opportunity for Republicans to seize this key Texas-Mexico border district as a plum for their already existing Texas Senate majority in the Texas Legislature.
