Eagle Pass Eagles Muzzled Uvalde Coyotes 42-14 in 2018 Football Season Opener

The mighty Eagle Pass High School Eagles muzzled the potent Uvalde High School Coyotes 42-18 in both teams’ 2018 Football Season Opener at The Honey Bowl in Uvalde, Texas on Friday, August 31, 2018.
The visiting Eagle Pass Eagles’ “War Eagle” offense opened the scoring on its second possession of the First Quarter on an 8 yard keeper touchdown run by Quarterback Richie Luna and the point after attempt by David Lopez was good to give the Eagles an early 7-0 lead with 5:45 minutes in the first period while the Eagles’ “Land Shark” Defense stifled the Coyotes offense during the first half.
The Eagles explosive offense added three more touchdowns in the first half to take a commanding 28-0 lead over the Coyotes, including a 42 yard Touchdown run by Running Back Saul Perales and two aerial Touchdowns to Wide Receiver Rey Mendoza, one of 16 yards and the other five yards, and Kicker David Lopez made all point after attempts to give the Eagles the 28-0 lead at Halftime.
The Eagles added two more touchdowns in the second half while the Coyotes scored two touchdowns against the reserve “Land Shark” Defensive players to make the final score 42-14, giving the Eagles a great victory and a 1-0 start in the 2018 Football Season.
The Eagles took the opening game kickoff and started their first drive at their own 40 yard line, but were forced to punt by the stingy Coyotes defense.
The Coyotes first possession started at the Coyotes 42 yard line, but the Eagles Land Shark Defense composed of defensive tackles David Santos, Manny Rodriguez, Martin Rodriguez, Andres Conde, defensive ends Moises Rocha, Jorge Gonzalez, linebackers David Kypuros, Roger Ulloa, Jacob Jimenez, and defensive backs Raul Lechler, Joshua Moncivais, Eric Heredia, Nicanor Moyeda, and Ryan Chisum stopped the Coyotes potent offense on a fourth and 2 at the Eagles 36 yard line, turning the football over to the mighty Eagles War Eagle offense. The Eagles Land Shark Defense made the first of many stops throughout the game against the Coyotes offense.
The Eagles War Eagle Offense took their second possession and marched down the field for a 64 yards touchdown drive on an 8 yard keeper by Eagles quarterback Richie Luna with 5:45 minutes remaining in the first quarter and David Lopez added the point after attempt to give the Eagles an early 7-0 lead over the Coyotes.
While the Eagles Land Shark Defense kept stifling the Coyotes offense, the Eagles offense scored their second touchdown on a 51 yard drive culminating in a 42 yard sprint up the middle of the Coyotes defense by Eagles running back Saul Perales with 1:50 minutes left in the first quarter and kicker David Lopez added the extra point, giving the Eagles a 14-0 lead over the Coyotes.
After the teams exchanged possessions resulting in punts, the Eagles War Eagle Offense composed of quarterback Richie Luna, running back Saul Perales, offensive linemen Jose Laguna, Rey Galindo, Jorge Guardado, Tito Villarreal, Alex Martinez, and wide receivers Rey Mendoza, Oscar Castillon, Eric Jimenez, and Isaac Gonzalez orchestrated an 80 yard touchdown drive, culminating with a 16 yard pass to wide receiver Rey Mendoza from quarterback Richie Luna with 6:12 minutes remaining in the second quarter and placekicker David Lopez added the point after attempt to make it 21-0 in favor of the Eagles.
The Eagles Land Shark Defense stuffed the Coyotes next possession, forcing them to punt. The Eagles explosive War Eagle Offense produced a 51 yard touchdown drive resulting in a five yard touchdown pass from signal caller Richie Luna to wide receiver Rey Mendoza with 1:12 minutes left in the second quarter and kicker David Lopez added the extra point to give the Eagles a commanding 28-0 lead at Halftime.
The Mighty Eagle Band together with the Diamond Dance Team performed at Halftime, entertaining both Eagles and Coyotes aficionados in attendance.
In the third quarter the Eagles and Coyotes exchanged possessions before the Eagles War Eagle Offense struck again with a 72 yard touchdown drive, culiminating with a seven yard TD pass from quarterback Richie Luna to wide receiver David Lopez with 3:58 minutes remaining in the third stanza and kicker David Lopez added the point after attempt to extend the Eagles lead 35-0 over the Coyotes.
With a commanding lead, the Eagles coaching staff allowed their reserve players to gain valuable game experience against the Coyotes.
The Uvalde Coyotes scored their first touchdown of the game after orchestrating a 69 yard driv, resulting in a two yard dive into the Eagles end zone by running back Sotero Martinez with 2:05 minutes left in the third quarter and placekicker Mathew Avila added the extra point to narrow the score 35-7.
The Coyotes tallied a second touchdown in the fourth quarter after marching 75 yards, culiminating on a 14 yard touchdown pass from quarterback Donovan Davila to wide receiver D’Andre Carroll with 5:00 minutes remaining in the fourth stanza and kicker Mathew Avila added the point after attempt to make it 35-14.
The Eagles War Eagle Offense responded to the Coyotes second touchdown by orchestrating a 56 yard touchdown drive, culiminating on a two yard plunge into the end zone by running back Isaac Caballero with 2:41 minutes left in the fourth quarter and reserve placekicker Erick Ramirez added the extra point to give the Eagles a commanding 42-14 lead.
The Eagles Land Shark Defense reserve players closed the game shutting down the potent Coyotes offense to earn the Eagles a dominant 42-14 season opening victory over the Coyotes. The Eagles are now 1-0 in the season.
The mighty Eagles next face former District 29-6A nemesis San Antonio Southwest High School Dragons on Friday, September 7, 2018, at 7:30 PM at the Southwest Independent School District Dragons Stadium on the banks of the Medina River in San Antonio, Texas.
