Eagle Pass to host Collaborative “Ready-to-Work” Career Fair
(Eagle Pass, TX) The City of Eagle Pass BEDC will host the second annual “Ready-to-Work” Collaborative Career Fair in partnership with the Middle Rio Grande Development Council, Workforce Solutions Middle Rio Grande, and Southwest Texas Junior College, on September 26, 2018, at the International Center for Trade.
Over 600 high school juniors and seniors participated at last year’s collaborative career fair, which included over 30 state and federal agencies, including multiple departments from Southwest Texas Junior College, and local businesses.
“The City of Eagle Pass is pleased to once again host the Ready-to-Work Collaborative Career Fair and partner with the Middle Rio Grande Development Council, Workforce Solutions Middle Rio Grande, and Southwest Texas Junior College to offer this great opportunity for our high-school upper classmen as they prepare to enter the workforce,” says Mayor Ramsey English Cantu.
The “Ready-to-Work” Collaborative Career Fair will kick-off the BEDC’s Labor Workforce & Training Month that begins in October and will include a visit from Texas Workforce Commissioner on Labor Julian Alvarez. Commissioner Alvarez will serve as the keynote speaker at the BEDC & Middle Rio Grande Development Council Labor Summit on October 3.
“I applaud the City of Eagle Pass BEDC and the mayor and city council for working in the spirit of cooperation with our collaborative partners to offer this great opportunity for our high school juniors and seniors,” says Terri Patlan-Contreras, Career Fair Chairman. “We are going to make this event successful and I encourage any agency or business seeking employees to participate in this career fair,” adds Patlan-Contreras.
