Latino Vote Urged on National Voter Registration Day
(Press Release) Washington, DC – Mi Familia Vota invites Latinos to collectively register to vote in preparation for the November 6th midterm elections. Voter registration drives and activities have been coordinated across the country to maximize National Voter Registration Day (NVRD).
Ben Monterroso, executive director of Mi Familia Vota issued the following statement:
“This year, especially, we’ve felt the need to unite and take a stand to determine the direction of our country. There has been no dearth of attacks against Latinos and immigrants in the form of rhetoric, actions, inactions and pitiless policies. From the unmet needs of our Puerto Rican brothers and sisters to the trauma of family separations and the desperate situation of Dreamers who are waiting for a resolution on DACA and a pathway to citizenship, we have an abundance of issues, people, and policies for which our vote is needed.
“There are over 27 million Latinos eligible to vote, and many more millions depending on their electoral participation. Mi Familia Vota urges Latinos across the country to prepare for the midterm elections by checking their voter registrations, registering to vote, and reviewing their polling and voter information. Moreover, we encourage Latinos to guard their American Dream by voting. We have prepared voter registration drives to harness our political power and to represent our place in the political life of our country; the Latino vote is good for our community and good for our nation.
“Today, NVRD, we recognize the voter registration disparity that exists in our communities, but we take pride in our work that uplifts our stories and brings us closer to the political representation that we deserve. It’s time to recognize and use our power, USA tu poder.”
