Former Congressman and State Representative Pete Gallego (D-Alpine) and retired Game Warden Peter Flores (R-Pleasanton) are battling for the Texas Senate District 19 Special Election Run-Off called by Governor Greg Abbott to fill the vacancy created by the resignation of former State Senator Carlos Uresti.
The Texas Senate District 19 Special Election Run-Off will be held on Tuesday, September 18, 2018 throughout the 17 counties comprising District 19, including Maverick County, with the Early Voting Period commencing on Monday, September 10th through Friday, September 14th.
Maverick County registered voters will vote during the Early Voting Period of September 10-14th at the City of Eagle Pass Multi-Purpose Center, located at 483 S. Adams Street, Fort Duncan Park, in downtown Eagle Pass from 8 A.M. through 5 P.M. Maverick Countians are encouraged to cast their ballot during the Early Voting Period at the Multi-Purpose Center.
Special Election Day is on Tuesday, September 18th, from 7 A.M. through 7 P.M. at regular County Precinct Polling Places.
This is an important election for Maverick Countians as the winner of this special election will represent our community in the Texas Senate in Austin, Texas for the next two years until 2020. Maverick County needs a strong State Senator to represent its citizens and businesses in Austin, Texas and Texas State Government. State funding for the completion of Loop 480 in Eagle Pass is much needed, the expansion of U.S. Highway 57 into four lanes from Eagle Pass to IH-35 at Moore, Texas is also needed, greater state educational funding is needed, expansion of Medicaid is desperately needed, expansion of state programs for Veterans, and many other issues will be represented by the winner of this critical election.
Texas Senate District 19 has been held by Democrats for a long period of time, but Governor Greg Abbott and the Republican Party seek to gain this key Texas-Mexico border district, as well as oil and gas rich district, in the September 18th Special Election Run-Off between Pete Gallego (Democrat) and Peter Flores (Republican) in a low-voter turnout.
The key to this Texas Senate District 19 Special Election Run-Off is which political party and candidate are able to bring out the most voters to the polls in the short time remaining before the September 10-14th Early Voting Period and Special Election Day on Tuesday, September 18th. Generally, Texas Senate District votes 55 percent Democrat and 45 percent Republican, but a low voter turnout may jeopardize the Democratic Party’s dominance of this District.
All Maverick County Voters are encouraged to make the time to cast their ballot in this salient Texas Senate District 19 Special Election Run-Off and invite all of their family members and friends to do the same.
