College and career fair draws large crowd

(PRESS RELEASE) Over 300 high school seniors from Carrizo Springs High School, La Pryor High School, Pearsall High School, Eagle Pass High School, and Eagle Pass C.C. Winn attended the first collaborative career fair, themed “Ready to Work,” on Sept. 28 at the International Center for Trade in Eagle Pass.
The event was a partnership between the City of Eagle Pass, Eagle Pass Business & Economic Development, Work Force Solutions Middle Rio Grande, and SWTJC.
“The turnout was great, and I believe it was a very productive day for all the students who attended,” said Johnny Guzman, Dean of Applied Sciences and Workforce Education. “The objective to this event was to expose Eagle Pass residents to well-paying jobs that can lead to long-term careers.”
A total of three $500 scholarships were awarded to students in attendance. Winners included Jon Navarro, Alexis Lopez, and Amber Lynn Diaz.
Participating agencies included: numerous SWTJC departments and programs, Office of the Governor, Maverick County Hospital District, Ft. Duncan Regional Medical Center, Power Mark Resources, AT&T, U.S. Border Patrol, U.S. Customs, FBI, U.S. Secret Service, Texas Department of Public Safety, Texas Game Wardens, Eagle Pass Police Department, and Eagle Pass Fire Department.
