Almost a year has passed since the City of Eagle Pass, Texas last had a permanent, full-time City Manager when former City Manager Arturo B. Rodriguez resigned on December 28, 2017.
The City of Eagle Pass will celebrate the 2019 New Year’s with an Acting City Manager for over a year when the City Council appointed Assistant City Manager Ivan Morua as Acting City Manager on January 2, 2018 while a search for a new City Manager was launched.
At their Tuesday, December 18, 2018 Special City Council meeting, the Eagle Pass City Council once again prolonged the evaluation of over 50 candidates who have submitted their resumes for consideration to the vacant City Manager position because two City Council members, Yolanda P. Ramon and William “Billy” Davis, were not present at the meeting, preferring to have a complete City Council be present to evaluate the candidates’ resumes for City Manager and selection of a short list of candidates to be interviewed for the vacant position.
The City of Eagle Pass continues to advertise the vacant City Manager position in a local newspaper with a proposed salary of $110,000 to $140,000 per year. Since the City Council has not selected a list of candidates to be interviewed and the position remains being advertised by the City of Eagle Pass, interested candidates may still apply for the vacant City Manager position as the City Council has not established a deadline to apply for the position.
During the past three and a half years, the City of Eagle Pass has been managed for approximately now 28 months by an Acting City Manager while only 14 months by a permanent, full-time City Manager. While Acting City Manager Ivan Morua has done well during his tenure as Acting City Manager, he has publicly expressed that he is not interested in applying for the permanent, full-time City Manager position. Some Eagle Pass taxpayers have expressed concerns regarding the lack of consistency and permanency in City Administration and the future of the community.
Some Eagle Pass citizens have stated that one of their New Year’s Resolutions will be for the City Council to evaluate all the candidates that have applied for the vacant City Manager position and select a new permanent, full-time City Manager for 2019.
