Letter to the Editor: Chief Patrol Agent of Del Rio Sector expresses gratitude to the community

(Opinion) Open Letter to the Community,
As the Acting Chief Patrol Agent for the Del Rio Border Patrol Sector, I want to take this opportunity to personally thank the many organizations, community partners, and individuals who assisted our employees during the recent Government shutdown. As many of you know, this was the longest Government shutdown in our history. The unprecedented duration was far more than many of our employees anticipated or had planned for. As our employees faced financial uncertainty, many of you stepped in to provide them with much-needed assistance. The community support shown to our employees was humbling and awe inspiring.
The individuals who recognized the uncertainties we were faced with and their subsequent actions makes me proud to be a part of this community. Your assistance helped to ease the uncertainties faced by our employees, allowing us to focus on our border security mission, secure in the knowledge that the community was with us. Your exemplary support demonstrated our motto of “Honor First.”
The outpouring of support for the men and women of the U.S. Border Patrol and their families by this community has reaffirmed the confidence I have that we are truly partners in our mission. We will continue to work with the community as we face whatever challenges are placed before us.
On behalf of the U.S. Border Patrol and the employees of Del Rio Sector, thank you for your generosity and support which allows us to continue to perform our duties and protect our borders.
Honor First.
Matthew J. Hudak
Acting Chief Patrol Agent
Del Rio Sector
