Eagle Pass City Council Approves Employment Agreement with George Antuna as New City Manager

The City of Eagle Pass, Texas City Council unanimously approved an employment agreement with new City Manager George Antuna at its regular meeting held on Tuesday, February 5, 2019. City Council member William “Billy” Davis was not present at the February 5th meeting.
Eagle Pass Mayor Ramsey English Cantu stated that newly hired City Manager George Antuna’s first day of work will be on Monday, March 4, 2019, with a transition period. Antuna was hired on January 16, 2019 by the Eagle Pass City Council after interviewing several candidates from among over 50 applicants and more than a year long search for a new permanent City Manager since former City Manager Arturo B. Rodriguez resigned on December 28, 2017.
The City Council appointed Assistant City Manager Ivan Morua as Acting City Manager on January 2, 2018 until a permanent City Manager was hired. Morua will remain as Acting City Manager until March 4th when George Antuna comes aboard as the new City Manager and will assist Antuna in transitioning to the City Manager post.
Acting City Manager Ivan Morua will return to his Assistant City Manager position upon Antuna’s arrival at City Hall. Morua did not apply for the City Manager vacancy.
At the January 16, 2019 City Council meeting when George Antuna was hired, Mayor Ramsey English Cantu stated that Antuna was being hired at a base salary of $110,000 per year with standard fringe benefits.
Mayor Cantu noted that Acting City Manager Ivan Morua had done an exceptional job and provided great leadership during his tenure as Acting City Manager the past year. The City Council approved compensation to Morua for his tenure as Acting City Manager at their January 16th meeting.
