Eagle Pass Set For Its Legislative Days
(Eagle Pass, TX – February 26, 2019) The City of Eagle Pass held a Legislative Delegate Briefing on February 21, at the International Center for Trade, in preparation for its 2019 Legislative Days on March 6 & 7, in Austin.
Mayor Ramsey English-Cantu thanked delegates for volunteering to serve as ambassadors of good will and stressed the importance of the city participating in the 86th Texas Legislative Session.
“Eagle Pass has been an active participant before and during this legislative session. Our team has been fostering key relationships with legislators and their staffs in order to advance the city’s legislative priorities,” said Mayor English-Cantu. “The city council and I are very pleased with the quality of leaders we have assembled to represent our great city during our legislative days,” adds Mayor English-Cantu.
The city, through its Government Relations Consulting Firm, EMC Strategy Group, has been coordinating efforts with the Offices of State Representative Poncho Nevarez and Senator Peter Flores in preparation of next week’s legislative days.
The two-day legislative days includes over 50 individual meetings, reception with Lt. Governor Dan Patrick, working luncheons with the TXDOT Executive Director, House and Senate Transportation Chairmen, Governor’s Deputy Director for Economic Development, and Chief Transportation Policy Advisor.
EMC Strategy Group President & CEO, Ernie Gonzalez, briefed the delegates on the city two-day schedule, legislative priorities, and the overall strategy of the city’s advocacy efforts.
The city’s legislative priorities were developed from city and regional stakeholders. It includes: Business & Economic Development, Small Business, Education & Labor Workforce, Public Safety & First Responders, Transportation Infrastructure, Water Infrastructure, Healthcare, and Recreation & Tourism.
Mayor English-Cantu, Mayor Pro-tem Yolanda Ramon, Councilmen Rudy Villalpando, Luis Sifuentes, and Billy Davis will lead the city’s 40-member delegation. The delegation includes local business and community leaders and city staff. The city will be represented throughout the 86th Texas Legislative Session that ends on May 27.
