Eagle Pass Vying for Legislative Action

(Eagle Pass, TX) The City of Eagle Pass is vying for legislative action this session to support economic development, long-term planning, homeland security, transportation, and modify the local government code.
EMC Strategy Group, which serves as the city’s government relations consulting firm, has been working with the Offices of State Representative Poncho Nevarez and Senator Peter Flores since prior to the start of the 86thTexas Legislative Session.
Representative Nevarez filed four legislative actions before the state’s bill filing deadline on March 8. These actions include: HB 3767 (FM-1021 maintenance enhancements and long-term planning), HB 2419 (development of a Reginal Transportation Corridor Plan specific to the Middle Rio Grande Development Council Region), Transportation Appropriations Rider for a truck re-route project, and HB 3759 (Government Code Amendment for Public Notices).
Cities and counties alike track bills and legislative action that can help or challenge local government operations. It is common for cities with professional lobbyists to aggressively work with legislators and their staff to develop legislation that can support local priorities.
“The city council and I applaud Representative Poncho Nevarez for filing these bills on behalf of the city and our residents,” says Mayor Ramsey English-Cantu. “We have charged our lobbyist with EMC Strategy Group to do all we can through the legislative process to advance our priorities and this is certainly a step in the right direction,” adds English-Cantu.
The City of Eagle Pass will continue its participation in the legislative session through May 27, 2019.
