Ana Barrera Named EPISD Teacher of the Month for March 2019

(Press Release) Eagle Pass Independent School District has partnered with local businesses throughout our city to highlight the Teacher of the Month program, which honors educators who have made a difference in our community. The program recognizes outstanding kindergarten, elementary, junior high, and high school teachers in Eagle Pass, Texas.
March’s Teacher of the Month is none other than Eagle Pass High School’s, Mrs. Ana Barrera. Throughout Mrs. Barrera’s three years at Eagle Pass High School she has touched the lives of hundreds of students.
In her classroom, students learn important skills of self-expression, time-management, note taking, and study habits that they will use throughout their lives. With dynamic and engaging lessons that are tailored to her students’ needs, Mrs. Barrera is able to reach the hearts and minds of her students, opening their imagination to the wonderful worlds of Chemistry, Environmental Science, and Environmental Systems. Through her lessons, Mrs. Barrera inspires students to become involved in the environmental and social issues of our community. She organizes field trips that allow students to have firsthand access to our community. Mrs. Barrera also keeps her students informed of relevant global events through the use of technology.
As a teacher, Mrs. Barrera understands the importance of creating a warming and welcoming environment for students to learn and grow in. She has dedicated extra time to bring a homey feeling into her classroom where students love to play educational games while discovering science’s magnificent mysteries. Mrs. Barrera has been able to connect to the student body not only through her classes, but also through extracurricular activities. She has served as Senior Class Sponsor, NHS Co-Sponsor, and is currently the Go Green Club Sponsor.
As a colleague, Mrs. Barrera is always the first one to help other teachers when they are in need. She shares her innovative ideas and helps develop lessons that are cross-curricular and entertaining. Mrs. Barrera is appreciated by her colleagues and has rightfully earned their admiration and support.
For all these reasons and more, Mrs. Barrera is Teacher of the Month.
A segment will appear on iVision throughout the month of January detailing many more accomplishments of Mrs. Barrera. This month she will also appear on community media, news publications and the EPISD website throughout March 2019. A teacher will be selected each month through May 2019 for a total of eight (8) honorees. The “Teacher of the Month” will be chosen based on educational achievements in the classroom, community contributions and innovative programs and techniques used by the teacher. The “Teacher of the Month” will receive a certificate of recognition and will be featured on iVision, local media news, news publications and radio broadcasting. Additionally, each “Teacher of the Month” will receive donations from local businesses.
