A senior male citizen of Eagle Pass, Texas passed away from multiple bee stings from a large bee hive while mowing his lawn on the 700 block of Colorado Street on Monday, May 6, 2019 and another two persons were injured from bee stings too.
The yet unnamed Octogenarian was attacked by a large bee hive while using the lawn mower at his home on Colorado Street, receiving multiple bee stings to his body. He was rushed to the Fort Duncan Regional Medical Center by the Eagle Pass Fire Department EMS Ambulance, but unfortunately passed away from the effects of the bee stings.
Also two other persons, a male and female, were stung by the bees at the same location on Colorado Street and were transported to the local hospital for medical treatment and are recovering from their bee stings.
Eagle Pass Fire Department Chief Mello stated that Eagle Passans should check their homes and lawns, including trees, for bee hives before doing any type of work on their homes such as mowing the lawn and other activities.
According to a bee expert from Somerset, Texas, it is currently bee reproduction season as queen bees are laying thousands of eggs in their bee hives. The bee expert noted that any slight noise, movement or activity may upset the worker bees and cause a full attack from the bee hive to protect the queen bee.
After the bee attack on Colorado Street, a bee removing company was called to exterminate the bee hive and its bees. It was not determined what type of bees they were.
