Eagle Pass High School junior student Edwin Pua, Jr. competed in the 2019 University Interscholastic League (UIL) 6A Academic Meet held at the University of Texas at Austin during May 2-4, 2019 and won a distinguished second place (Runner Up Champion) in the General Mathematics Category event and fourth place in the Calculator Applications Category event, announced Eagle Pass High School UIL Coach and Teacher Daniel Soto.
This is the first time that an Eagle Pass High School student has placed among the top four in the State of Texas UIL 6A Academic Meet in two Category events in the same year.
Pua swept District 29-6A and Region IV-6A in both Categories to earn the right to compete in the 2019 State of Texas UIL 6A Academic Meet, added Soto.
Soto stated that Edwin Pua, Jr. is a gifted and academically talented student and is very dedicated and disciplined in training for the General Mathematics and Calculator Applications Categories.
Pua enjoys competing in UIL Academic Meets and going to the State UIL Academic Meet for his second consecutive year was a great and valuable experience. He has one more year left to try to become the first student from Eagle Pass to win a State Championship at the State UIL Academic Meet.
Pua noted that competing at the State Academic Meet is a totally different experience because he gets to compete against the best and brightest students from Texas, especially against the math and science magnet school students from the Houston and Dallas-area.
Edwin Pua, Jr. is the son of Edwin and Haydeelyn Pua of Eagle Pass, Texas.
The Eagle Pass Business Journal congratulates Edwin Pua, Jr. on his outstanding accomplishments at the 2019 UIL State Academic Meet and wishes him all the best in his future academic and personal endeavors.
