Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador to Visit Piedras Negras, Coahuila, Mexico on May 5, 2019

Mexico’s President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador will visit Piedras Negras, Coahuila, Mexico and hold a national celebration of the 157th Anniversary of the Battle of Puebla on Sunday, May 5, 2019.
A nationally televised celebration of the 157th Anniversary of the Battle of Puebla ( Cinco de Mayo) will be held at the Main Municipal Plaza of Piedras Negras, Coahuila at 9:30 A.M. directly across the Rio Grande River from Eagle Pass, Texas.
Piedras Negras, Coahuila Mayor Claudio Bres Garza stated that the City of Piedras Negras is ready and prepared to host the nation’s president on this important national holiday and celebration. Mayor Bres Garza invites all citizens from Piedras Negras and surrounding communities from northern State of Coahuila to attend the historic visit and ceremony on May 5, 2019 in Piedras Negras.
The City of Eagle Pass, Texas International Bridge No. 1 located on Garrison Street and directly crosses into the Piedras Negras, Coahuila Main Municipal Plaza will be temporarily closed on May 5th from 7 A.M. to 12 Noon for security reasons due to President Lopez Obrador’s visit to Piedras Negras.
Security is extremely tight on both sides of the United States-Mexico border due to President Lopez Obrador’s visit to Piedras Negras, but more so on the Mexican side with the Mexican military, federal, state, and municipal police guarding the scheduled event in the Piedras Negras Main Municipal Plaza. American security forces will be on alert in the event of an emergency.
This is President Lopez Obrador’s first visit as President of the Republic of Mexico to Piedras Negras, Coahuila, although he did visit Piedras Negras on several occasions while campaigning for president.
President Lopez Obrador’s visit and ceremony commemorating the 157th Anniversary of the Battle of Puebla is open to the public and admission is free.
