Maverick County Hospital District Administrator Alma Martinez announced that Maverick County residents who are not eligible for Medicaid or do not have any other form of health insurance may qualify to receive healthcare services under the District’s Medical Financial Assistance Program (MFAP).
The Medical Financial Assistance Program is under the leadership of Luiza Garza and her highly qualified and competent staff. The MFAP office is located at the District’s headquarters located at 3406 Bob Rogers Drive, Suite 250, Eagle Pass, Texas 78852, (830) 757-4950.
Luiza Garza noted that all Maverick County residents who do not have health insurance or eligible for Medicaid are encouraged to visit the MFAP office and apply for assistance to determine if they may be eligible to receive MFAP healthcare assistance.
To apply, the Maverick County resident must provide a valid Texas Driver’s License or Texas Identification Card with their current address, or one or more of the following: a Resident Alien Card, a U.S. Passport, or a U.S. Immigration Card, a Birth Certificate or Voter Registration Card, and Social Security Card. In addition, the Maverick County resident must provide a utility bill or a housing/lease contract or rent receipt or a food stamp notice or a notarized statement of residency with a Texas Identification Card of the person providing the residency statement. Also a Maverick County resident must provide a check stub for the last 30 days or wage verification form, retirement income or unemployment or social security award letter or income tax records or bank statements or other documents requested. To qualify, one must meet the 200 percent federal poverty guideline.
Garza noted that among the healthcare services covered under the MFAP include primary care services, specialty care services, up to three prescriptions per month, laboratory services, X-Ray Services, MRI and CT Scans, Inpatient Hospital, Outpatient Hospital, Emergency Room, and Eyewear.
Currently, there are between 540 to 550 clients qualified under the MFAP. Garza stated that even if a Maverick County resident is working, they should still come by the MFAP Office to apply to determine if they may still qualify. Garza added that each client or case is evaluated on a case by case basis. Generally, clients under the MFAP are reviewed every six months for eligibility.
Even if a Maverick County resident has already received healthcare services before applying, Garza noted that if the resident qualifies they may be eligible to receive up to three months of services paid retroactively. Each client is evaluated on a case by case basis, added Garza.
Martinez stated that the mission of the Maverick County Hospital District is to provide medical and hospital services to indigent county residents through programs such as the Medical Financial Assistance Program.
Both Martinez and Garza reiterated that a Maverick County resident in need of medical and/or hospital care services should come in and apply for the Medical Financial Assistance Program. The MFAP Office is open Monday through Friday from 8 A.M. to 5 P.M.
