The highly anticipated 2019 Dave Campbell’s Texas Football Magazine finally hit the newsstands this month with a preview of every Texas college and high school football program, including the Eagle Pass High School Eagles.
Dave Campbell’s Texas Football Magazine has picked the Eagle Pass Eagles to finish in third place in District 29-6A during the 2019 season, qualifying for the post-season playoffs if the prediction holds. Picked to win District 29-6A is none other than the mega-huge Laredo United High School Longhorns followed by the Laredo Alexander Bulldogs in second, the Laredo United South Panthers in third, the Del Rio Rams in fifth, the Laredo Nixon in sixth, and the Laredo LBJ Wolves in seventh place.
The 2019 Eagle Pass Eagles once again are under the tutelage of Head Coach Tom Gonzalez and are scheduled to open the 2019 season with an early August 5, 2019 date for pre-season workouts with a total of 38 returning lettermen, five starters on offense and three starters.
The Eagle Pass Eagles will have to reload with some experienced players, but mostly with new talent having to step up to fill the graduating class of 2019. Leading the Eagles on offense will be the explosive running back tandem of Saul Perales and Jose Hernandez, quarterback Allan Rodriguez, wide receivers Jacob Ruiz and Armando De Los Santos, athletes David Lopez and Isaac Caballero, running back Carlos Cantos, offensive linemen Alex Martinez, Emmanuel Balderas, Abraham Urdiales, Alonzo Carrasco, and Emmanuel Jimenez, and Kicker Erick Ramirez.
On defense, the Eagles will be led by defensive end Charlie Schuessler, linebackers Jacob Salinas and Joe Samaniego, defensive end MJ. McGehee, defensive tackle Andres Conde, Martin Rodriguez, and defensive backs Eric Heredia, Kristian Barcena, Juan Guerra, and Marco Torres.
According to Dave Campbell’s Texas Football, Coach Gonzalez stated “We’ve got good leadership, but we lack experience across the board. Our kids know how to win, and we’ve established a winning culture.”
The Eagles will play two scrimmages against the Somerset Bulldogs on August 15, 2019 at 7 P.M. at Somerset, Texas and the Laredo Martin Tigers on August 22, 2019 at 7 P.M. at Shirley Field in Laredo, Texas.
