Border Patrol Agents Rescue Mother, Child from Rio Grande River

EAGLE PASS, Texas – U.S. Border Patrol agents assigned to the Eagle Pass Station rescued a mother and child who were struggling to cross the Rio Grande River, Oct. 26.
“The treacherous waters of the Rio Grande River pose a great risk to those who attempt to cross,” said Del Rio Sector Chief Patrol Agent Raul L. Ortiz. “Thanks to the quick response and selfless dedication of our agents, the mother and daughter are safe, and the possible loss of life was avoided.”
At approximately 11 p.m., Eagle Pass Station agents observed a woman and her child attempting to cross the Rio Grande River. The family was overcome by the river and swept away by a strong current. Agents responded quickly and were able to pull the individuals out of the river, and onto the U.S. shore. The Eagle Pass Fire Department was notified and the mother and child were evaluated by the first responders, then transported to Fort Duncan Regional Medical Center for further treatment.
The mother and her 3-year-old daughter, both citizens of Mexico, will be processed per CBP guidelines.
