Eagle Pass Eagles Trounced By Laredo Alexander Bulldogs 42-30

The mighty Eagle Pass Eagles were trounced by the visiting Laredo Alexander Bulldogs 42-30 during homecoming festivities in a key District 29-6A football contest on Friday, October 25, 2019 at the Eagle Pass Independent School District Cozel Foster-Veterans Memorial Stadium in Eagle Pass, Texas.
Laredo Alexander Bulldogs jumped to an early 14-0 lead in the first quarter as dual threat running back and quarterback Junior Rodriguez tallied two touchdowns on a 15 yards keeper and a one yard scamper while the point after attempts were good.
The Eagles roared back to knot the score 14-14 on two touchdown drives resulting in a 16 yards pass from quarterback Allan Rodriguez to wide receiver Domingo Fuentes and a 10 yard trot into the end zone by running back Isaac Caballero with the point after attempts made good by place kicker Erick Ramirez early in the second quarter.
The Bulldogs struck paydirt late in the second quarter on a long 90 yard touchdown drive culminating in a 26 yard pass from quarterback Jay Santos to wide receiver Iker Jaimes and the extra point was good to take a 21-14 lead with 3:37 minutes before halftime.
In the second half, the Eagles received the opening kickoff and marched down Cozel Foster-Veterans Memorial Stadium for a touchdown drive resulting in a six yard dive into the promised land by running back Saul Peralez and the point after attempt sailed down the middle of the goal posts to tie the game at 21-21 with 11 minutes remaining in the third quarter.
The Bulldogs answered the Eagles with a touchdown drive of their own resulting in a 12 yard run into the end zone on a Wildcat quarterback keeper by Camilo Pedraza and the point after attempt was good to take the lead 28-21 with 6:53 minutes remaining in the third quarter.
After forcing the Eagles explosive offense to punt on the ensuing possession, the Bulldogs quickly padded their lead with a 67 yard touchdown drive on two plays culminating on a stunning 57 yards touchdown pass from quarterback Jay Santos to wide receiver Iker Jaimes and the extra point was good to extend the lead 35-21 late in the third quarter.
In the fourth quarter, the Eagles narrowed the score to 35-24 on a 36 yard field goal by place kicker Erick Ramirez, but the Bulldogs barked back with a five yard scamper touchdown run by running back Camilo Pedraza and the point after attempt made good midway in the fourth quarter.
The never say die Eagles battled back late in the game to tally a touchdown after a 71 yard drive on a 30 yard aerial connection from quarterback Allan Rodriguez to wide receiver Carlos Santos while the two point attempt failed, making it 42-30 with 3:27 minutes remaining in the game. The Bulldogs offense ran out the clock to deny the Eagles any hopes of a come back as the Bulldogs earned a hard fought 42-30 win over the Eagles.
The highlight of the football game was the crowning of the 2019 Homecoming Queen and King as Cheer representatives Selma Mijares and Kyle Luna took those honors while Monserrat Juarez and Angel de la Pena representing Life Skills were crowned as Princess and Prince, Ximena Hernandez and Luis de la Garza representing Band were crowned as Duchess and Duke, Julissa de Luna and Rey Flores representing Tennis were crowned Countess and Count, and Cecilia Guerrero and Norman Carreon representing Basketball were crowned Lady and Lord.
