Eagle Pass Woman Dies from Accident Injuries

Maverick County Sheriff Tom Schmerber reported that Eagle Passan Michelle Mendez, age 29, passed away from the injuries she suffered in a single automobile accident on December 15, 2019 while being a bystander together with two other individuals.
Schmerber noted that a 2008 Hyundai Tiburon automobile driven by Leroy Herrera, age 24, of Eagle Pass lost control due to high rate of speed and crashed into a concrete wall and bounced off the wall and struck Michelle Mendez and two other individuals, Fabian Duenes, age 21, and Jennifer Mendez, age 23, who were standing in a private property,.
Michelle Mendez and Fabian Duenes were airlifted to a San Antonio, Texas medical center for medical treatment of their critical injuries.
Michelle Mendez succumbed to the critical injuries she sustained in the December 15th auto accident. Fabian Duenes is still being treated for his injuries.
Sheriff Tom Schmerber noted that additional charges will be added to Leroy Herrera, the driver of the automobile that struck Mendez and Duenes, as a result of the death of Michelle Mendez.
Sheriff Schmerber added that the accident remains under investigation.
