Three Eagle Passans Struck By Single Roll-Over Auto Accident, Two Airlifted to San Antonio in Critical Condition

Maverick County Sheriff Tom Schmerber reported that a high rate of speed single automobile roll-over accident struck three pedestrians on Sunday, December 15, 2019 at the intersection of Boulder Ridge and Calle Nicolas in Eagle Pass, Texas at approximately 6:07 A.M., seriously injuring two pedestrians that required they be airlifted to a San Antonio, Texas Medical Center in critical condition for treatment of their injuries.
The driver of the silver 2008 Hyundai Tiburon automobile was identified as Leroy Herrera, age 24, of Eagle Pass. Herrera allegedly was driving at a high rate of speed and lost control of the automobile colliding with a private residential concrete fence and proceeding to strike three pedestrians standing nearby in a private property.
The three pedestrians were identified as Michelle Mendez, age 29, Jennifer Mendez, age 23, and Fabian Duenes, age 21. All three were transported to the Fort Duncan Regional Medical Center, but Michelle Mendez and Fabian Duenes required that they be airlifted to San Antonio in critical condition.
The case is under investigation for Driving While Intoxicated and Intoxication Assault.
