2020 Maverick County Junior Livestock Show Underway January 22-25th

The 2020 Maverick County Junior Livestock Show and Sale (MCJLS) got underway with over 300 youth exhibitors on Wednesday, January 22, 2020 at the Zan Mathies Showbarn, Maverick County Lake, in Eagle Pass, Texas and will continue through Saturday, January 25th with the Sale of the Show Animals at 11:30 A.M. and the Annual Western Dance at 8 P.M.
The 2020 Maverick County Junior Livestock Show and Sale kicked-off on Tuesday, January 21, 2020 with the 7th Annual Jesus Sanchez Memorial Cowboy Breakfast at the Zan Mathies Showbarn sponsored by the Eagle Pass Chamber of Commerce and the Maverick County Junior Livestock Show Association. Over 700 persons attended the annual Jesus Sanchez Memorial Cowboy Breakfast, announced Sandra Martinez, Executive Director of the Eagle Pass Chamber of Commerce.
The first day for the Maverick County 4-H and Future Farmers of America (FFA) members exhibiting a show animal in the 2020 MCJLS is on Wednesday, January 22nd, at 9 A.M. with weighing and sifting of Market Lambs and Market Goats, followed by the weighing and sifting of Market Rabbits and Market Pens at 10 A.M., followed by the weighing and sifting of Market Poultry at 11 A.M., followed by the judging of Out of County and Breeding Sheep and Goats at 1 P.M., followed by the judging of Market Rabbits and Meat Pens at 2 P.M., followed by the judging of Market Poultry at 4 P.M., followed by the Judging of Young Exhibitor Projects at 5:30 P.M., and concluding with the moving in of Steers and Hogs at 5:00 P.M.
The second day of Thursday, January 23rd, features the Food Show during 7 A.M. through 11:30 A.M., followed by the judging of the Food Show, Art and Photo Contest at 12 Noon, followed by the Helping Hands Show for Hogs, Rabbits, and Market Goats at 9 A.M., followed by the judging of Market Lambs and Market Showmanship Contest after the Helping Hands Show, the weighing and sifting of Market Steers after the Lamb Show, followed by the weighing and sifting of Market Swine, followed by the judging of Out of County and Breeding Cattle and Swine, followed by the judging of Young Exhibitor Projects at 5:30 P.M., and followed by the selection of Grand and Reserve Champion Goat and Lamb at 6:30 P.M.
The third day of Friday, January 24th, features the Helping Hands Show of Lambs and Goats at 9 A.M., followed by the judging of Market Swine and Market Swine Showmanship Contest at 10:30 A.M., followed by the judging of Market Steers and Market Steer Showmanship Contest, followed by the Selection of Overall Senior Showmanship Champion and Adult Championship Contest, followed by the recognition of Food, Art and Photography Shows Winners, and followed by the selection of Grand and Reserve Champion Hog and Market Steer at 6 P.M.
The fourth and final day of Saturday, January 25th, features the annual Bar-B-Que Plate Sale from 11 A.M. to 1 P.M., followed by the Dedication of the 2020 MCJLS Sale at 11 A.M., followed by the Recognition of the 2019 MCJLS Sale Top 10 Buyers at 11 A.M., followed by the 2020 MCJLS Sale commencing at 11:30 A.M., and concluding with the annual Western Dance at 8 P.M. featuring the Kix Garcia Band. Tickets for the Western Dance are available at the MCJLS at the Zan Mathies Showbarn.
All Maverick County and surrounding area businesses, entrepreneurs, ranches, individuals, and entities are cordially invited to attend the 2020 MCJLS Sale on Saturday, January 24th, at 11:30 A.M. to purchase one or several show animals from local 4-H and FFA youth exhibitors.
The 2020 MCJLS during January 22-25, 2020 is open to the public.
