Frank “Franky” Sanchez Announces Candidacy for City Council Place 2

Frank “Franky” Sanchez has authorized the Eagle Pass Business Journal to announce his candidacy for the City of Eagle Pass Council Place 2 in the current City Officers Special Election with Early Voting being held from January 15th-28th, 2020 and Election Day on Saturday, February 1, 2020 at the Multi-Purpose Center, located at 480 South Adams Street, Eagle Pass, Texas.
As a native Eagle Passan, I have chosen to run for the Eagle Pass City Council Place 2 position in order to improve and better our community and local government. As a local business owner and retired educator in local public schools, I have gained valuable leadership and decision-making experience that I can contribute to the important public policy decisions decided by the City Council and facing Eagle Pass. Our community is growing and requires City Council members with business experience and people’s skills to guide it towards a stable and progressive growth and development while being fiscally responsible to taxpayers.
Our community needs more economic development and job opportunities for its local citizens and entrepreneurs. I support the opening of a Business Incubator Center within the City of Eagle Pass that would provide training and office space for local entrepreneurs to start and launch their small businesses as well as create new better paying jobs in the community. I also support the creation of a One Stop Business Center within the City of Eagle Pass to provide information and assistance with obtaining all the necessary permits to start and open a new business in one location.
As a Texas-Mexico border community, international trade through our Eagle Pass Port of Entry is very important to our City and provides important jobs in our community. I support increasing international trade through Eagle Pass and our sister-city of Piedras Negras, Coahuila, Mexico and working with all state and federal agencies at our two City-owned international bridges to achieving these goals. Increased international trade will create new better paying jobs for our citizens, real estate development, new construction, increase our tax base, and infrastructure improvements. Our City needs to take advantage of the newly approved United States-Mexico-Canada Free Trade Agreement by Congress to propel our community into a first-tier quality community.
As our community continues to grow, public safety issues such as police and fire protection services requires our City to provide the latest equipment and technology to our public safety employees and hire additional police, firemen, and emergency medical technicians (EMS) at competitive salaries. I support working with all county, state, and federal agencies to improving our public safety preparedness and resources. I support the building of a Public Safety Training Center within Eagle Pass to provide training and a shooting range for all city, county, state, and federal law enforcement agencies.
Similarly, a growing community requires greater recreational and entertainment opportunities in our City for our citizens and children to enjoy. I support the new City Sports Complex, the Main Street Program, develop new recreational and entertainment venues and programs, and the promotion of the arts, culture, history, and tourism through the City’s Parks and Recreation Department, the City Hotel Occupancy Tax, and the Center for International Trade.
A growing community also requires the maintenance and development of a public infrastructure to handle the increased traffic and community needs. I support the paving of all City streets and potholes, the completion of Loop 480 by the Texas Department of Transportation, and the development of new subdivisions, streets, and roads, and the operation of an efficient municipal waste collection system and recycling program.
A growing community requires highly trained and experienced employees to maintain it and fulfill its obligations and responsibilities to its citizens. I support providing the best training available to all City employees and paying them competitive salaries in order to retain and promote their personal and professional growth and development.
I firmly believe that I can make significant contributions to the citizens of Eagle Pass through my service and participation in the City Council while ensuring that their taxes are wisely used and invested in the growth of the community.
I grew up in a humble and large family of six brothers and seven sisters in Eagle Pass. My parents were the late Jesus E. Sanchez and Elia Sanchez, who instilled in me the passion of public service and education. I own a small business and am a retired teacher.
I graduated from Eagle Pass High School in 1976, received an Associate of Arts degree from Southwest Texas Junior College, and graduated from Texas A&I University at Kingsville (now Texas A&M University-Kingsville) with a Bachelor of Arts in Education and Kinesiology in 1979.
My overall background, experience, and desire to serve the citizens of Eagle Pass makes me the logical choice for the City Council Place 2 position. I respectfully request for your vote and support in the City Officers Special Election currently being held with Early Voting during January 15-28, 2020 at the Multi-Purpose Center and on Election Day, Saturday, February 1, 2020 at the Multi-Purpose Center. Thank you and may God bless you.
