Political neophyte Olga Ramos upset incumbent Maverick County Commissioner Pete Venegas Precinct No. 3 in the March 3, 2020 Democratic Party Primary Election while incumbent Maverick County Commissioner Gerardo “Jerry” Morales Precinct No. 1 defeated challenger Roberto Martinez to hold on to his seat.
Olga Ramos scored a major political upset by defeating incumbent County Commissioner Pete Venegas Precinct No. 3 with 1,523 votes (50.60%) compared to Venegas’ 1,487 votes (49.40%), stunning the Pete Venegas political campaign workers and supporters gathered at the Maverick County Courthouse front steps on March 3, 2020.
Meanwhile, incumbent County Commissioner Gerardo “Jerry” Morales avoided any upset with 1,500 votes (57.96%) compared to challenger and political neophyte Roberto Martinez’s respectable 1,088 votes (42.94%).
Since there were no Republican Party candidates for both County Commissioner Precinct Nos. 1 and 3, Morales and Ramos will proceed to become elected at the November 3, 2020 Texas General Election, unless an Independent Candidate or Write-In Candidate were to register between now and August 2020.
