Retired Eagle Pass Teacher, Elnita E. Escontrias, Passes Away

Eagle Pass, Texas retired school teacher, Elnita Eneth Escontrias, passed away on Tuesday, February 2, 2021, at Fort Duncan Regional Medical Center in Eagle Pass at the age of 70.
Escontrias worked for 42 years as a public school teacher with the Eagle Pass Independent School District. She last taught for many years at the Early Childhood Center (ECC) on Kelso Drive in Eagle Pass, teaching pre-kindergarten and kindergarten students.
Escontrias was highly regarded by her peers, students, parents, and administrators for being a dedicated and consummate teacher. She genuinely cared for her young pupils and professionally prepared her lesson plans to ensure her students learned and progressed with their education. Her students soaked up everything she taught them and became well prepared to face the challenges of first grade and their education.
Escontrias was born on January 12, 1951 in Del Rio, Texas to Jesus Ramon Flores and Maria Paredes de Flores. She is preceded in death by her parents, Jesus Ramon Flores and Maria Paredes de Flores; her son, Gerardo Roel Escontrias; and her brothers, Jesus Ramon Flores, Jr., Ruben Dario Flores, Roel Rodolfo Flores, and sister, Evangelina F. Rang.
Escontrias is survived by her husband, Gerardo Escontrias; daughter, Bettina Escontrias; sister, Elia Imelda F. Diaz; and many nephews and nieces.
Escontrias graduated from San Felipe High School in 1969 in Del Rio, Texas and obtained her Bachelor of Arts degree in Education from Texas A & I University in Kingsville, Texas, now Texas A & M University-Kingsville.
Escontrias dedicated her life to her family, students, and the Lord. She will be greatly missed by her family and the community. She was a member of Our Lady of Refuge Catholic Church in Eagle Pass.

Escontrias was cremated. Visitation will be held at Memorial Funeral Chapel, 1705 Del Rio Blvd. on Monday, February 15, 2021, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. A Rosary will be held on February 15 at 2 p.m. Following the Rosary, a brief mass will be held at 3 p.m. at the Our Lady of Refuge Catholic Cemetery, 1679 Flowers Drive, Eagle Pass, Texas 78852, followed by interment.
