Maverick County Commissioner Precinct No. 1 Gerardo “Jerry” Morales announced that work on the newly approved $2.5 Million Maverick County Lake Amphitheater Project in Eagle Pass, Texas has started and is now underway.
The construction of the new $2.5 Million Amphitheater Project is expected to be completed within 6 to 8 months. The Amphitheater Project is expected to provide an entertainment forum and venue for Maverick County citizens to enjoy all types of entertainment genres as well as attract tourism and revenues for the community.
Commissioner Morales stated that the Amphitheater project will be able to hold musical concerts, plays, festivals, and other activities that will benefit the citizens of Maverick County.
Morales noted that the Amphitheater Project will be composed of two sections, including one section with a seating capacity of 800 to 1,000 people and a second with a seating capacity of 2,500 to 3,000 people. Morales added that the county is having ongoing discussions with the City of Eagle Pass to develop and construct a new entrance to the Maverick County Lake through Bibb Avenue to facilitate entry into and out of the County Lake property. With the opening of the Amphitheater Project within 6 to 8 months, traffic into and out of the Maverick County Lake is expected to significantly increase.
Maverick County Commissioner Precinct No. 4 Roberto Ruiz opposed the use and development of the $2.5 Million of Maverick County funds for construction of the Amphitheater due to the severe economic impact of the COVID-19 pandemic upon the citizens and businesses of Maverick County, citing that the monies would be better used and invested in providing financial support and programs to citizens and businesses affected by the coronavirus pandemic. Maverick County unemployment rose to 17% in January 2021 and is among the highest in the United States and Texas.
