Two Maverick County Men In Separate Incidents Commit Suicide

Maverick County Sheriff’s Department Chief Deputy Roberto De Leon announced at a press conference on Monday, May 24, 2021, that two Maverick County men in separate incidents tragically committed suicide on May 21 and May 22, 2021.
Chief Deputy De Leon stated that the first incident involved a 61 year old male residing in the Chula Vista Subdivision in southern Maverick County on Friday, May 21, 2021. De Leon added the Maverick County Sheriff’s Department received an emergency telephone call from family members that a male individual was found hanging in the family home. When the Sheriff Deputies and the City of Eagle Pass Fire Department Emergency Medical Services Ambulance arrived at the scene, the male individual was already deceased. A Justice of the Peace was summoned to declare the male individual deceased.
The second incident occurred on Saturday, May 22, 2021 when the Maverick County Sheriff’s Department received a telephone call requesting assistance upon the discovery of a family male member, age 32, found hanging in the residence at Loma Linda Subdivision in southern Maverick County. The male individual was found dead upon the arrival of the Sheriff Deputies and City of Eagle Pass Fire Department EMS Ambulance.
De Leon noted that the reporting of back to back suicides in Maverick County is a tragedy in the community. The month of May 2021 is National Mental Health Awareness Month in the United States. Mental Health experts have noted an increase of suicides in the United States during the COVID-19 pandemic.
