Maverick County Tax Assessor-Collector Isamari Sanchez Villarreal Announces Retirement

Maverick County Tax Assessor-Collector Isamari Sanchez Villarreal announced on Monday, August 2, 2021, at a press conference held in her office that she is retiring from her elected position due to personal reasons and thanked the citizens of Maverick County for their support during the past 13 years as the County Tax-Assessor and almost 40 years of service in the Maverick County Tax Assessor-Collector’s Office.
Villarreal was re-elected to another four year term unopposed as Maverick County Tax Assessor-Collector in the November 3, 2020 General Election and was in her first year of the new four year term when she announced her retirement on August 2.
Villarreal stated that her employment with the County of Maverick and subsequent election as County Tax Assessor-Collector has provided her many fond memories and satisfying moments in her life, including meeting her love of her life and husband, the late Armando Villarreal. Villarreal also noted during her almost 40 years of public service at the Maverick County Tax Assessor-Collector’s Office, she met thousands of people and many of whom became her friends.
Villarreal stated that Maverick County Judge David R. Saucedo and County Commissioners Court will appoint an Interim County Tax Assessor-Collector in the immediate future at Commissioners Court meeting and the elected position will open for persons interested in running for it in the March 2022 Primary election and a new Tax Assessor-Collector will be elected in the November 1, 2022 General Election.
Villarreal was accompanied by her mother, Carmen Sanchez, and daughter, Cecilia Villarreal, as well as County Tax Assessor-Collector staff in making her retirement announcement on August 2.
Joining Villarreal in retirement are three of her top Deputy Tax Assessor-Collectors including Mary Pete Rodrigues, Eloisa Rodriguez, and Amalia Garza, leaving the County Tax Assessor-Collector’s Office with a shortage of experienced staff members. In sum, the Maverick County Tax Assessor-Collector’s Office lost four valuable, experienced staff members to retirement in one day.
