18 Wheeler Hauling Butane Gas Tanks Rolls Over, Spilling Load and Hitting Multiple Vehicles on U. S. Highway 57

An 18 Wheeler tractor-trailer rolled over on U.S. Highway 57 South on Tuesday, December 28, 2021, at approximately 2:30 p.m., causing its load of butane gas tanks to spill onto the highway and hitting multiple vehicles.
U. S. Highway 57 South was closed for approximately five hours due to the accident and the transportation of several people to the local hospital by ambulance and the cleanup of the butane gas tanks and debris caused by the accident.
The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) handled the accident scene and investigation of the incident.
An estimated four vehicles sustained damage from the rolling butane gas tanks on the highway and at least three people were taken to a local hospital by ambulance for treatment of injuries sustained as a result of the accident.
Vehicular traffic on U. S. Highway 57 South was re-directed to U.S. 83 to Uvalde and to the Old Uvalde Road (FM 481) during the five hours of closure of U. S. Highway 57. Motorists were also redirected to U. S. 83 to Carrizo Springs and U. S. 277 South to travel to or from Eagle Pass.
DPS continues to investigate the accident as of press time.
