Maverick County Sheriff Tom Schmerber announced that Maverick County Constable Precinct No. 1 Oscar “Ram” Ramos was arrested on Friday, December 17, 2021, by Texas Rangers on a warrant of arrest for theft of services, and Ramos voluntarily self-surrendered himself at the Maverick County Tom Bowles Detention Center in Eagle Pass, Texas.
After being processed, Ramos appeared before Maverick County Justice of the Peace Precinct No. 1 Kina Mancha for a bond hearing and was released upon a personal recognizance bond signed by Ramos.
The alleged charges of theft of services stems from a double-dipping scheme wherein Ramos allegedly billed working at two businesses or governmental entities at the same time. The charge is a felony under Texas law due to Ramos being a public official.
Ramos was first elected as Maverick County Constable Precinct No. 1 on November 3, 2020 and took office on January 1, 2021. Ramos defeated incumbent Constable Precinct No. 1 Rudy Valdez in a Run-Off Primary Election on July 14, 2020 and did not face a Republican Party opponent in the November 3, 2020 General Election, winning a four year term.
Ramos will remain in public office until the conclusion of his case in the immediate future.
A person arrested for a criminal charge is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court at law.
