Four More Maverick County Citizens Die from COVID-19 as the Omicron Variant Sweeps the Community

The Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS) reported on Friday, January 28, 2022, that four additional Maverick County citizens died from COVID-19 and 227 new confirmed positive COVID-19 cases on Thursday, January 27, as the Omicron variant sweeps through the State of Texas and across the United States.
Since after the Thanksgiving holiday and through the Christmas and New Year’s holidays, the total number of COVID-19 confirmed positive cases and fatalities in Texas and the United States has significantly increased, including Maverick County.
Maverick County has particularly been hard since January 1, 2022 until now with the highly contagious Omicron variant due to its extreme transmissibility.
Maverick County now has a cumulative total of 428 fatalities (deaths) from COVID-19 and 18,982 confirmed positive cases as of January 27, 2022 and since the pandemic began in 2020.
The State of Texas is second in the United States with the highest number of confirmed positive cases with 6,121,819 and second highest number of fatalities due to COVID-19 with 78,856 as of January 27, 2022 while California has the highest number in the United States with 8,174,883 cases and 79,400 fatalities (deaths) as of January 27, 2022. Florida is third with 5,448,288 confirmed positive cases and 64,368 fatalities (deaths) as of January 27, 2022.
Texas is expected to surpass California with the highest number of fatalities (deaths) from COVID-19 within one to two weeks despite having 10 million less people than California.
Maverick County citizens are encouraged to get vaccinated and boosted and follow the CDC Guidelines such as wearing a face mask (N95 or KN 95), use hand sanitizer regularly, wash hands with soap, practice social distancing (6 feet), avoid large gatherings ( 5 or more), and limit travel only to essential matters.
