Mexico’s President Andres Manuel López Obrador announced on Friday, February 18, 2022 the expansion of the Mexican Customs facility at Piedras Negras, Coahuila, Mexico during a visit to the U. S.-Mexico border opposite of Eagle Pass, Texas.
President López Obrador was accompanied by State of Coahuila Governor Miguel Angel Riquelme Solis, Coahuila Economic Development Secretariat Claudio Bres Garza, Coahuila State Secretary Fernando De Las Fuentes Hernandez, and Piedras Negras Mayor Norma Trevino Galindo during his visit to the Piedras Negras Military Barracks, adjacent to the Eagle Pass-Piedras Negras International Bridge No. 2 Mexican Customs Facility, vowing support of the expansion of the Mexican federal customs facility in order to increase the number of lanes at International Bridge No. 2 from six to 12 as well as the International Railroad Bridge to handle larger trade and commerce between the United States and Mexico for the benefit of the people of Mexico.
López Obrador added the expansion will generate greater economic development and create new employment opportunities for the citizens of the State of Coahuila and Mexico.
The expansion will significantly increase the total trade volume that passes through the U.S-Mexico border at the Eagle Pass-Piedras Negras Port of Entry by tractor-trailer, railroad, and commercial vehicles. In 2021, over $33.8 Billion of trade crossed through the Eagle Pass-Piedras Negras Port of Entry.
The Eagle Pass-Piedras Negras Port of Entry is now the eighth largest border crossing in the United States and 32nd among all ports of entry.
