Eagle Pass 2022 International Friendship Festival to Be Held March 24-April 3

After a two year absence due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Eagle Pass International Friendship Festival will return and be held during March 24 through April 3, 2022 in Eagle Pass, Texas, announced Margie Montoya, Eagle Pass Chamber of Commerce Executive Director.
The 2022 Eagle Pass International Friendship Festival will kick-off on Thursday, March 24, at 7 p.m. with an evening of music, fun, food, and refreshments titled “Barracks and Brews” at the historic Fort Duncan Ruins on Bliss Street in downtown Eagle Pass. Live musical groups will provide entertainment with many food and refreshment booths serving the finest cuisine and refreshments. The event is open to the public.
The 2022 Eagle Pass International Friendship Festival will once again host the traditional “Abrazo Ceremony” between representatives from Eagle Pass and Piedras Negras, Coahuila on Friday, March 25, at 5:30 p.m. at the Eagle Pass International Bridge No. 1 sponsored by the Eagle Pass International Good Neighbor Council and the Piedras Negras International Good Neighbor Council. The “Abrazo Ceremony” will commemorate the historic friendship and close bonds between the citizens of Eagle Pass and Piedras Negras. The ceremony will honor two individuals, one from each city, as Mr. and/or Ms. Amigo/a and will have the Mayors of both cities present to celebrate the traditional “Abrazo Ceremony.” The event is open to the public.
Also on Friday, March 25, at 7:30 p.m. at the C. C. Winn High School Auditorium, the Eagle Pass Arts Council will present a live musical and dance performance by the highly acclaimed Guadalupe Dance Company of San Antonio, Texas. The event is open to the public, but may be subject to a surcharge for admission.
The traditional Eagle Pass International Friendship Festival Carnival opens on Friday, March 25, and runs through April 3 at Shelby Park on the banks of the Rio Grande in downtown Eagle Pass. The amusement carnival is open to the public, but the amusement rides and food booths will have a cost for riding the mechanical rides and to purchase food and refreshments. On Saturday, March 26, at 11 a.m., Eagle Pass will once again host the traditional International Friendship Parade in downtown Eagle Pass. All individuals, groups, organizations, and schools interested in marching in the parade, please contact the Eagle Pass Chamber of Commerce at (830) 773-3224 or go visit them at 400 Garrison Street. The parade is open to the public.
Also on Saturday, March 26, at 3 p.m., the Mexican Baseball League (AAA) Champions Monclova Acereros will play an exhibition baseball game with a team to be designated. The baseball game is open to the public, but may have a price of admission.
On Sunday, March 27, at 5:30 p.m., the City of Eagle Pass Parks and Recreation Department will host the International Friendship Festival 5-K Run at the Eagle Pass Multi-Purpose Center, located at 480 S. Adams Street. The event is open to the public. Medals will be awarded to top winners.
During March 31 through April 2, the traditional “Noches Mexicanas” sponsored by the Eagle Pass Evening Lions Club will be held at Shelby Park on the banks of the Rio Grande in downtown Eagle Pass with live music, food, refreshments, and activities for the whole family. The event is open to the public.
Eagle Pass and Piedras Negras will celebrate their historic friendship and close economic, social, and cultural ties once again during the International Friendship Festival. Come and join the celebration.
