Maverick County Democratic Party March 1, 2022 Primary Election Results Announced

After a long evening of tallying the results of the March 1, 2022 Democratic Party Primary Election, which included the malfunction of the automatic vote tabulating machine, the final results were announced by Election Judge Enriqueta Collett late into the evening.
In the 365th Judicial District Court Judge race, incumbent Amado J. Abascal, III handily defeated challenger, Edgar Juarez, to win re-election to a record ninth four year term, receiving 5,327 votes compared to Juarez’s 3,536 votes in Maverick County. Overall, Abascal received a total of 7,797 votes compared to Juarez’s 5,037 votes among the three counties of Dimmit, Maverick, and Zavala. Abascal has no Republican Party opponent in the November 8, 2022 General Election.
In the 293rd Judicial District Court Judge contest, incumbent Maribel Flores easily won re-election to a second four-year term unopposed on the ballot and has no Republican Party opponent in the November 8, 2022 General Election.
For Maverick County Judge, former Eagle Pass Mayor Ramsey English Cantu defeated incumbent County Judge David R. Saucedo with 5,773 votes compared to Saucedo’s 3,668 votes-a margin of victory by 2,105 votes. English Cantu will now face Republican Party candidate Armando Rosales in the November 8, 2022 General Election.
In the Maverick County Tax Assessor-Collector race, former Eagle Pass City Councilwoman and County Commissioner Precinct 2 Asalia Casares defeated appointed-County Tax Assessor-Collector Jesus Casas, CPA, with 4,805 votes compared to 3,773 votes for Casas. Casares has no Republican Party opponent in the November 8 General Election.
For Maverick County Commissioner Precinct 2 contest, Justice of the Peace Precinct 2 Rossana “Roxi” Rios edged a victory against incumbent Rosy Cantu and challenger Sergio Nandin without a run-off, receiving 970 votes compared to Cantu’s 781 votes and Nandin’s 101 votes. Rios will face Republican Party candidate Jose E. Rodriguez in the November 8 General Election.
In the Maverick County Commissioner Precinct 4 race, incumbent Commissioner Roberto Ruiz squeezed out a victory over former Eagle Pass Mayor Luis E. Sifuentes, receiving 1,286 votes compared to 1,214 votes for Sifuentes-a margin of victory by 72 votes. Ruiz faces Republican Party candidate Alma Soliz in the November 8 General Election.
For Maverick County Justice of the Peace Precinct 1, incumbent Kina Mancha easily won unopposed with 1,626 votes. Mancha faces Republican Party candidate Anna Gabriela Derbez in the November 8 General Election.
In the Maverick County Justice of the Peace Precinct 2 contest, Ernie Leija was top vote getter with 651 votes, but will have to face Dora Madera in a run-off election, which received 585 votes, and Leeroy Euresti received 469 votes. The run-off election winner will win the post as there are no Republican Party opponent in the November 8 General Election.
For Maverick County Justice of the Peace Precinct 3, Place 1 race, incumbent Domingo “Mingo” Rodriguez won with 1,415 votes compared to challenger Jorge Raul “Rule” Olivas’s 972 votes. Rodriguez will face Republican Party candidate Mark J. Garcia in the November 8 General Election.
In the Maverick County Justice of the Peace Precinct 3, Place 2 contest, incumbent Jeannie Smith won unopposed with 120 votes and has no Republican Party opponent in the November 8 General Election.
For Maverick County Justice of the Peace Precinct 4 race, incumbent Tere Hernandez defeated challenger Maribel Garcia-Rodriguez, receiving 1,362 votes compared to Rodriguez’s 937 votes. Hernandez will face Republican Party candidate Antonio “Tony” Garcia in the November 8 General Election.
In the Maverick County District Clerk contest, incumbent Leopoldo “Polo” Vielma won unopposed with 5,727 votes, but faces Republican Party Candidate Teresa H. Gonzalez in the November 8 General Election.
For Maverick County Clerk race, incumbent Sara Montemayor won unopposed with 5,973 votes and has no Republican Party opponent in the November 8 General Election.
In the Maverick County Treasurer contest, incumbent Rito J. Valdez, III won unopposed with 5,355 votes, but faces Republican Party candidate Omar Rodriguez in the November 8 General Election.
For State Representative District 74 race, incumbent Heriberto “Eddie” Morales, Jr. won unopposed with 10,890 votes, but faces Republican Party candidate Katherine Parker in the November 8 General Election.
In the U. S. House of Representatives District 23 contest, John Lira defeated Priscilla Golden with 20,100 votes compared to Golden’s 15,702 votes. Lira faces incumbent Tony Gonzales, a Republican, in the November 8 General Election.
For Maverick County Democratic Party Chair position, incumbent Juanita V. Martinez won re-election unopposed with 5,287 votes.
In the Texas Senate District 19 race, incumbent Roland Gutierrez won unopposed with 36,222 votes, but faces Republican Party candidate Robert Garza in the November 8 General Election.
