Eagle Pass Memorial Junior High Science Teacher, Alejandra Martinez, was named as a finalist in the 2022 H.E.B. Excellence in Education Awards in the Leadership Secondary category, announced Memorial Junior High Principal Mario Escobar.
The H.E.B. Excellence in Education Awards were created in 2002 by Charles E. Butt, Chairman of H.E.B., to honor outstanding public school professionals and to thank them for their dedication and commitment. Since its launch in 2002, H.E.B. has awarded over $12 million to deserving educators statewide. Through this program, H.E.B. pays tribute to those outstanding educators who go the extra mile each and every day to serve their students and their communities and inspire others to do the same.
Martinez is an internationally acclaimed teacher having earned many educational awards for her extraordinary dedication and innovative curriculum and instructional methods. Among the awards earned by Martinez include the National Geographic Grosvenor Teacher Fellow, the International Oceans Discovery Fellowship, the National Geoscience Foundation Geoscience Education Fellowship, and the Eagle Pass Independent School District Teacher of the Month in February 2015.
Martinez loves to incorporate her fellowship programs and field expeditions into her classroom curriculum and instructional methods to inspire and challenge her Memorial Junior High students to learn and pursue careers in the sciences.
This year she is scheduled to attend and participate in two different oceanographic expeditions, including one with the National Geographic Society’s Grosvenor Fellows with the Lindbald Expedition Team and another with the RV Atlantis Expedition Team from Rutgers University.
Martinez will now interview with a distinguished panel of educators and education experts in April to compete for the top award of H.E.B. Excellence in Education Secondary Leadership Award in Texas for 2022. The overall winner will be announced by H.E.B. on April 30, 2022.
Memorial Junior High Principal Mario Escobar stated Miss Martinez is an outstanding teacher who loves to continue learning about science and developing new curriculum and instructional methods to motivate and inspire her students to love science and education. Escobar added Memorial Junior High is extremely fortunate to have Miss Martinez and other dedicated teachers who challenge students to grow and seek educational opportunities worldwide.
Her students believe there is not a more worthy teacher in Texas than Miss Alejandra Martinez to be honored and awarded the H.E.B. Excellence in Education Leadership Secondary award.
