A total of nine Republican Party candidates were elected unopposed in the March 1, 2022 Republican Party Primary Election in Maverick County, Texas, announced Sandra Sassano, newly elected Republican Party of Maverick County Chairperson.
Elected in the March 1 Republican Party Primary include Sandra Sassano as Party Chairperson, Armando Rosales for County Judge, Jose F. Rodriguez for County Commissioner Precinct 2, Alma Soliz for County Commissioner Precinct 4, Omar Rodriguez as County Treasurer, Teresa H. Gonzalez as District Clerk, Anna Gabriela Derbez for Justice of the Peace Precinct 1, Mark J. Garcia for Justice of the Peace Precinct 3, Place 1, and Antonio “Tony” Garcia for Justice of the Peace Precinct 4.
Eight of these candidates will face off in the November 8, 2022 General Election against their respective Democratic Party candidates in each race.
This is the first time in Maverick County history that eight Republican Party candidates will be on the General Election ballot, said Sassano.
During the March 1, 2022 Primary Election, the Republican Party of Maverick County lodged a complaint against the Maverick County Elections Office complaining that Republican voters were advised at the polls that there were not any Republican candidates running and were issued a Democratic Party ballot instead.
Sassano reported the situation in Maverick County to the Texas Republican Party’s “Protect the Vote” Committee, who contacted the Maverick County Elections Administrator to rectify the problem and unlawful activity.
With Maverick County being a historic Democratic Party county, the novel situation with nine candidates on the local Primary Election ballot of the Republican Party caused confusion among poll workers who were unaware of two distinct party ballots.
The November 8, 2022 General Election promises to be highly competitive and entertaining at least as to the eight local county elections being disputed, as well as the statewide races.
