Ramsey English Cantu and Virginia Cervantes Viuda de Macias Named 2022 Mr. Amigo by Eagle Pass and Piedras Negras International Good Neighbor Councils

The Eagle Pass, Texas and Piedras Negras, Coahuila, Mexico International Good Neighbor Councils announced the naming of the 2022 Mister Amigo for the “Abrazo de la Amistad” Ceremony to be held on March 25, 2022 at 5:30 p.m. at the City of Eagle Pass International Bridge No. 1.
The historic and traditional “Abrazo de la Amistad” Ceremony between the sister cities of Eagle Pass and Piedras Negras on the United States-Mexico border will be renewed after a two year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
In 2020, the Eagle Pass and Piedras Negras International Good Neighbor Councils selected former Eagle Pass Mayor Ramsey English Cantu and Piedras Negras Pastor Virginia Cervantes Viuda de Macias as Mr. Amigo. Due to the start of the COVID-19 pandemic in February 2020, the “Abrazo de la Amistad” Ceremony scheduled for March 2020 was postponed in the interest of public health and safety.
The two International Good Neighbor Councils decided to renew the traditional “Abrazo de la Amistad” Ceremony in 2022 and agreed to honor the two persons selected in 2020 as their 2022 Mr. Amigo honorees, former Eagle Pass Mayor Ramsey English Cantu and Piedras Negras Pastor Virginia Cervantes Viuda de Macias, announced Ana Margarita Sanchez de Galindo, President of the Piedras Negras Chapter of the International Good Neighbor Council.
The 2022 “Abrazo de la Amistad” Ceremony will kick-off the Eagle Pass International Friendship Festival that will be held from March 24-April 3 in Eagle Pass, Texas to celebrate the close social, cultural, educational, business, and political relations of the twin cities of Eagle Pass and Piedras Negras.
Both Eagle Pass and Piedras Negras public officials, citizens, and invited guests are expected to attend the traditional “Abrazo de la Amistad” Ceremony on March 25, including Eagle Pass Mayor Rolando Salinas, Jr. and Piedras Negras Mayor Norma Lucille Trevino Galindo.
Eagle Pass and Piedras Negras authorities will temporarily close International Bridge No. 1 on March 25 for a few hours to set up and host the traditional “Abrazo de la Amistad” Ceremony.
